This is just a bit of fun to cheer up and inspire myself and others after a disappointing weekend, but first, because we are a book blog…

Last summer I discovered there are simply hundreds of wonderful hockey fiction books out in the world. I have done my best to read them all, and though I am making good progress, I hope I never catch up.

Q: What could be more better than my two favorite pastimes in one place?

A: When the hockey is my favorite team! Perfect!: The Fort Wayne Komets’ 1993 Championship Run Ooh! Nonfiction!

To be fair, I am fairly new to Fort Wayne and the events depicted in the book actually almost predate my love of the sport altogether. Truly, they predate most of the players on the current roster. Still, this was a must-read book for me.

When I discovered a professional hockey team in my new backyard I was excited. While the team does occasionally show up in the fiction I read, my curiosity about the nonfiction team was directed by diehard Ks fans to Blake Sebring’s books, Tales of the Komets, Live From Radio Rinkside: The Bob Chase Story, and Legends of the Komets, (the latter two along with several other of his book sare available on KU). I was super enthusiastic when the new book came out last Fall. From what I had already read, I knew Sebring has a talent for putting the reader into the story and I wasn’t disappointed with the new material. From page one I was hooked and held on tight to ride the wave through the recounted tale. I finished it with the feeling of having actually lived through it and was super pumped for the new season.
