Friends. Just friends. It’s really not a difficult concept.
Milwaukee is merely a pitstop while I try to figure out what to do with the rest of my life. I’m not hiding from my family of moonshiners back in West Virginia. I’m just … figuring some things out before I confront them.
Lenny acts like he’s fine being friends, but I know he wants more. It’s not hard to figure out when his lips find mine every chance he gets.
He thinks he can charm his way into me taking down my walls. Ha! Good luck with that. My walls are steel reinforced.
But then the whole mess back home catches up with me, and Lenny’s done with gentle. His battering ram is at the ready, prepared to take my walls down no matter the consequences. Gulp.
He claims Love will OUT in the end.
Easy for him to say. He doesn’t know the disaster awaiting him.
This friends to lovers later in life romantic comedy features a woman doing her dang best to resist a silver fox’s charm, a silver fox that will do anything in his power to change her mind, a gang of friends who don’t know the definition of nosy, and a group of former military buddies who are looking for any excuse to get back in the game.

“I’m sorry. You shocked me. I misspoke.”
Lexi crosses her arms over her chest and leans back as far as possible while remaining perched on my lap.
“Apology not accepted.”
I sigh. “I’m an ass. Are those the words you want to hear?”
“What I want is for you to not be an ass!”
I shrug. “I’m a man. I will be an ass on more occasions. And I trust you to point each and every occasion out to me.”
“I will. You can bet on it.”

About the Author

D.E. Haggerty is actually just plain old Dena, but she thinks using initials makes her sound like one of the cool kids. She was born and raised in the U.S. but has spent the majority of her adult life abroad living in cool-sounding places like Istanbul, Heidelberg, and The Hague. She has job hopped from military policewoman to lawyer to B&B owner. She finally jumped off the job hopping bandwagon a few years ago when she decided to turn her addiction to romance novels into a career. If anyone has ideas on how to turn a love of wine into a job, she’s all ears.

“This my real family.” I step forward to glare down at my parents.
“A real family who has my back whenever I need it.
Citation (APA): Haggerty, D.E. (2022). A Love for Lexi [Kindle Android version].
A real family who laugh and joke together.”
“And give each other shit,” Suzie adds. There’s my crazy girl.
“And tell each other dirty jokes,” Val chimes in.
“And drink tequila shots together,” Hailey says.
“And try wedding cake together,” Faith says.
“And set up romantic surprises for each other,” Chrissie says.
A Love For Lexi is the perfect end for this series. Lexi is new to Milwaukee and isn’t sure she is staying. She has it bad for Lenny, the last single hold out in the band of ex army brothers who together have raised Hailey and adopted her closest friends. As much as Lexi would love to give in and let him into her life, she isn’t free to do so. Her journey toward a HEA brings into sharp focus all the themes the series has circled around for seven books. Friendship deeper than friends, family bonds stronger than blood. There is no trouble that can’t be dealt with head-on, together.
Lexi is a wonderful addition to the family and it was great getting to know more about Lenny. While all the men are more than they seem on the surface, it would seem Lenny is quite complex and the former CIA analyst, Lexi, is the perfect match for him.
As always, I laughed so hard I teared up. From Suzie’s litany of phallic euphemisms (Woody womb pecker, rumpleforeskin, seriously?!?) to the usual dirty jokes, witty sarcasms, and on-the-nose chapter titles (You don’t have to be crazy to be my friend. I’ll train you.) I will miss these ladies and their men.
I received an advance review copy from the author. I am leaving this review voluntarily.
