So, I have a new reading indulgence… Sports fiction, romance really. While my preference, as in life, tends to push towards winter sports, I did very much enjoy this episode into college football.
For a dare, Denver is tasked with kissing Avery at the freshman get-together. Sparks fly and it looks like instalove, but a phone call draws him away and another player on the football team snags her attention. The story takes place two years later, Denver has never gotten over that kiss and his teammate, to whom he has been loyal, is not treating Avery well. Denver begins to text her to comfort her when the relationship predictably goes south, not wanting to break the bonds of jockhood, he uses the alias Titan, for the NFL team he hopes to play for one day.
Their love story is fun. Denver is a too good to be a true southern boy with a real respect for women and a true love of football. He has secrets that push him to do well, hoping for the NFL contract at the end of the college, not just for himself but for those he loves. Avery is not as immediately loveable but still, she is a match for him. She is cautious but has her head pointed firmly in the right direction. They are good for each other.
I did feel that when their relationship got rocky, it was a bit out of sync with the story, like the trope needed a problem but these two were just so perfect for each other one had to be conjured up, but it did give the reader a chance to get to know Avery’s roommate much better. She is another well written character. Another issue I had with the story is with the sex scenes. Nothing ruins hot love-making like uttering words like c*ck and p*ssy and c*m in the course of normal conversation. Don’t get me wrong, the sex is steamy hot and sweet. These two burn the pages up and I do enjoy some dirty talk, it just seems a bit jarring to have them start talking to each other in porn language in the middle of it. I have in the weeks since reading this for the first time, discovered it is a bit of a me issue as most sports romance tends to read the same way, so I won’t take off too many points as I know there is definitely an audience for it.
All in all, this made for a great afternoon read.
I received an advance review copy for free through Silver Dagger Book Tours, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

This sounded really good until you got to the dirty talk, that is definitely not for me.
