Review – Galliano Gold by Traci Andrighetti

About The Book:

Galliano Gold (Franki Amato Mysteries #5) by Traci Andrighetti

Galliano-Gold-finalIt’s Mardi Gras season in New Orleans, but PI Franki Amato has too many problems to celebrate. A proven Sicilian lemon tradition hasn’t landed her a proposal, so her nonna has amped up the meddling to get her married, and pronto. Franki’s also under pressure to solve the strange murder of a family friend’s nephew, Nick Pescatore, who was found on a Mississippi River steamboat rumored to be haunted. When the sinister old boat sets sail on an overnight gambling cruise, Franki goes undercover with a motley crew, including a Mark Twainophile captain with a murderous past and a slimy galley chef with a mobster brother, not to mention an ex-stripper landlady with a newfound career as a memoir writer and all-too public speaker. Franki has to figure out what missing Civil War gold, a playing card, and a mysterious woman on roller skates have to do with Nick’s death. If she doesn’t, it’s anchors aweigh for Franki—down to Davy Jones’ locker.

My Thoughts:

Leo Review smLemons, a dead guy on ice, a  mob of Sicilian grandmothers, sleuthing co-workers, a naked landlady, a mafia boss in spats, roller skates, two Judge Judy knockoffs, the Rockford Files, Mark Twain, and a legend about Civil War gold set on a haunted casino steamboat during the New Orleans Mardi Gras. Yeah, Frankie Amato has her hands full. Did I mention the catfish?

Admit it. You are trying to figure out how that all fits into one story.

From the opening salvo of Nonna hiring Franki’s detective agency to investigate why Franki hasn’t managed to get her longtime boyfriend to propose to her yet,  to the final page, Galliano Gold is a roller coaster of fun and mayhem. Packed with danger and hilarity. I dare anyone to not laugh out loud while reading it.

This is my first book by Traci Andrighetti,  I am certain it won’t be my last. It is clear from the get-go that this book is late in a series, there is all kind of history with these characters. That didn’t keep me from following the story though. The feeling that new layers were being added to well-established characters kept me reading. It is obviously the insane cast of technicolor characters that keep readers coming back for more, and rightly so. I was hooked from the start with the irrepressible Nonna and as I was introduced to each recurring character I found I was more interested in their stories than I was the murder. Which isn’t to say the murder didn’t get my attention, after all, a frozen smiling dead guy holding a playing card is bound to get anyone’s attention, especially after Franki’s boyfriend is wrongfully accused of the crime. This book is a  wittily original good time mystery.

While I did receive a free copy of this book, the opinions and thoughts are my own. My thanks to Traci Andrighetti and Great Escapes Book Tours for the opportunity to read this book.
