This book is not standalone and if you are not caught up with the series then you are in for some serious spoilers if you read this out of turn.
So I will admit I have been waiting for this book after the mind blowing cliff hanger of book 3. (I still need to get caught up with Embers which I believe fits in between 3 and 4) Once again it was action packed and filled with danger. The story picks up right where the last leaves off. Maya has found Coal alive, but now they need to find a way to escape from Warden custody. The rest of the group has reached Madison, only to realize that Maya is missing. Alicia and Taylor go back for her, while the others plan to defend against the advancing Wardens. Along the way Livi has discovered a backdoor into Warden tech that allows her to hack into their systems. Suddenly, infiltrating The City to free Maya’s parents is viable plan once again.
Though I have to admit I was as antsy as Maya during their enforced wait for Livi, this book still delivered the action in a big way with quick paced and raw action that pushed boundaries. The girls versus boys showdown bordered on hilarity while the escape from and final battle with the creepers was breathtaking.
There weren’t many new characters, however the core team has been fleshed and have some added facets. Alicia and Hunter aren’t so unapproachable anymore, Maya seems to be settling down and Luca might not be all that bad. Crystal still seems like a loose end and Coal is as unreadable as ever, but then he has just been through hell.
One would think that by now I would be used the instant ending cliffhanger, but I have to admit it got me again. I tried turning the page several times before I realized that once again the story is over. I am looking forward to the next book. I am dying to meet Maya’s parents!
I also absolutely love the new covers!!
I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review

About The Author: From https://susannevalenti.com/about/
I’m a dystopian / sci fi author (that’s the dream anyway) but my day job is a little less creative and a has a bit more catitude. That’s right, I made a terrible cat pun . I work with my family running a boarding cattery (that’s a hotel for cats) and we also help some lovely rescue kitties while they look for their new homes.
I have a little sister who is similar to me in pretty much every way; we look alike, talk alike, love the same things, hate the same things with the same insane passion and are even both aspiring authors!
I met my husband when I was seventeen. We have been together for ten years which is long enough for me to find out that he’s the most infuriating man I’ll ever meet and to learn what true love really is. I am insanely lucky to have him next to me in everything I do even if we never look at anything in quite the same way.
Along the way we have rescued four fur-babies; two cats and two dogs. If you ever want to feel unconditional love then adopt an animal in need! It will be the best thing you ever do guarenteed
I am into everything and anything from Walking Dead to Game of Thrones to Made in Chelsea and get a little too emotionally involved with the characters. I love a story that draws me in, keeps me hooked and leaves me wanting more and hopefully that’s what I create.
