51Pct4R0NoL._SX361_BO1,204,203,200_Book 8 in the Super Sporty Series is high octane kid fun. Horsecitty is being threatened by a super villain with an army of Pegasus like creatures. Only Pegasus is a myth and this villain has already been vanquished by our sporty duo. Our heroes’ first attempt to gather information has left Sporty with a broken leg and banged up wings and it seems that this time She and Harley may just be over matched.

I am fairly new to the Super Sporty series and I haven’t quite gotten used to a world where horses walk upright and are super heroes. Reading this with my family brought up a flurry of questions about how that works. The question at the top of the list is, “How do you text with hooves?”. It does work and very well. Super Sporty is a fun book for upper elementary school kids.

I think the story was fun and exciting. It was a mystery and It was cool that the super hero could break her leg, that she is not invulnerable like most super heroes.

Freckles was my favorite character. A secret agent trained as a nurse is great.

The best part of the story was the plural of Pegasus. Pegasuses, or Pegasi? My dad and I think Pegases is the right plural. The spell check thinks it is Pegasuses.

The author’s choice of vocabulary was terrific. This has to be the coolest passage in any kid’s book ever. “They were yellow, fiery yellow, yellow like the sun was yellow on that bright, sunny day. However, it was not a warm, comforting yellow, like a candle flame might be; the winged horse’s eyes were harsh and forbidding, like a toxic chemical.”

Over all this is a great book. I would recommend this to kids 4th grade and up to read, but I would read it to my kindergarten group and they would love it)

4-Readability/ Sometimes it was a bit choppy. The action moved really fast and was hard to keep up with.

5- Age Appropriate/ Lots of great vocabulary words for older readers

5- Illustrations/ I would make it a six if the scale would let me!!! 🙂  I love how simple and great the illustrations are.

5-Ability to Hold Interest/ I really needed to just keep gfiveoing until we found out how it ended.

5- Did I Like It?/ I love the story of Sporty and her best buddy Harley. I can’t wait to read more of the series. I am sure we have at least one ready to review in January.
